How To Place An Ad On GUNDOGS.Com

Before you can place an advertisement on GUNDOGS.Com you first must register and receive a username and password. It's important to fill out as much profile information when you register because this information will be retained and used in the contact info when you place an ad. This aids in not having to retype info that you've already entered. If for example you're an Ad Agency entering info and ads for a number of your clients you can always overwrite the contact info for the individual ad if necessary. 

We offer several types of ads on GUNDOGS.Com. Ads in the sections: Dogs For Sale and Fine Shotguns run for a period of 45 days. Ads for the remaining sections: Breeders And Trainers, Lodges And Outfitters, Find A Veterinarian, and Business Directory run on an annual basis. Within each category we offer Premium Ads (Most expensive), Photo and Text only advertisements.

Premium Ads are always displayed in the listings ahead of any other type. In addition, Premium Ads allow for the inclusion of linking to video in addition to displaying  up to 5 photos. Our website utilizes Microsoft's Silverlight Player for playback of video. Your Video must be in either Windows Movie Format (.wmv) or H.264 (.mp4). At this time YouTube Video url's are not supported because YouTube still requires the use of Adobe Flash when attempting to access video urls from the YouTube website. Hopefully in the future YouTube will be player agnostic and allow the industry standard H.264 video files played in Silverlight or any desired player supporting H.264. Photo Ads are displayed after Premium Ads and ahead of Text Only ads in the ad listing. Photo Ads allow up to 5 Photos, are less expensive than Premium Ads and do not allow for video inclusion.

Text Ads are the least expensive, are shown last in the ad listing and don't allow for photo or video inclusion.

Placing an Ad on Gundogs.com is a simple and straight forward process however there are some things you must do with respect to your photos to get the best overall look to your ad. The most important photo you submit is the photo that will appear in the initial listing area. It will be the first photo you Upload when placing an ad. This first photo should have an aspect ratio of  480x640, this means the size of your photo should be 480 pixels wide  by  640 pixels in height often considered "Portrait" as opposed to "Landscape".

 As you can see the picture above looks perfect. It's aspect ratio is 480 x 640. The picture below looks distorted, the reason is  the aspect ratio of the photo was 640 x 480. All other photos uploaded to Gundogs.com should either be 640 x 480 or 480 x 640 pixels  in size (No Larger) for optimal viewing and performance. They will be displayed perfectly in the application regardless of aspect ratio. Just remember the photo that will be used in the Ad Listing should have an aspect ratio of 480 x 640 and it will be the first file uploaded.

There is a maximum size limit per photo of 250 KB far greater than necessary for a high quality JPEG or PNG file in 640x480 pixels. Remember the larger the files you upload the longer it takes to download them for viewing. Here are two high quality photos that are each less than 150 KB:  640x480 example  480x640 example that you can download to use as examples or templates for your photos. There are numerous photo editing software packages available to edit your photos for use with Gundogs.com. One free utility is Google Picasa. If you can't seem to get the photos the way you want them or need any additional help in placing an ad send us an email at info@gundogs.com and we will be glad to assist you. For an additional charge we will edit your photos for optimal use on Gundogs.com. It is also a good idea to type out your ad and description ahead of time using a text editor like Notepad. Then when your happy with your ad  content  you can just cut and paste the info into the ad form.  Below you will find the fields for individual ad categories below. Simply copy the appropriate text below and paste the info in your text editor like Notepad. Then enter your content and return to the Place an Ad form and complete it by cutting and pasting your content into the fields of the form.

All ads are moderated to prevent inappropriate content from being displayed. After uploading and completing payment for your ad it may not show up in the listing immediately. We have to confirm your payment with Paypal and verify the content. This typically takes minutes but can take up to 24 hrs. Don't worry your ad's run length starts after moderation.

You can edit your ad at anytime. However, you cannot change the Category Listing or the Type (Premium or Photo) so make sure you are happy with the Ad content and category before submitting it for payment. If you edit your ad there is no charge for the editing but your ad will be moderated after every edit and may not show up immediately so it's best to make sure your happy with it the first time.
